Aletha Marie Hoagland-VanValkenburgh,89, passed away Jan. 24,2010 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY. She was born on Sept. 30,1920 to Clarence and Hilda Cross Brandow in Prattsville NY.
After graduating from Gilboa High School, she married Charles A. Hoagland and they had three children. Surviving is her daughter Barbara Cooke(Randy). She was predeceased by her husband Charlie and her two sons Kenneth(Ethel) who passed in Jan. 2004 and William(Linda) who passed in Feb. 2007.She also had two sisters Dorothy Brandow and Marian Hapek who also predeceased her.
In later years she married Robert VanValkenburgh,who also predeceased her.Surviving are her four stepchildren, Sandy Bordeau,Marie VanValkenburgh,Lori Campbell and Jack VanValkenburgh. She was blessed with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was self employed for years as a cook for Camp Lexington. After its closing, she was a pastry chef at Windham Arms and then on to the Thompson House until her retirement.
Throughout the years she was a member of the Lexington Health Club,Ladies Auxillary and enjoyed helping out with church dinners,rummage sales and functions of the Ladies Aid with the Lexington Methodist Church where she was a member.
In later years she moved back to Prattsville on property of her parents original homestead. The last four years she was a resident of Home Sweet Home on the Hudson in Catskill, NY where she really thought she was at home.
Her most enjoyable times were family get togethers and playing pinnocle with her friends at their weekly get togethers.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Decker Funeral Home,Windham,NY. Burial took place at Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville NY on Tuesday January 26,2010.
