Knox – Archie H. “Sonny” Martell Jr. died peacefully on January 1, 2023. Archie was the beloved husband of Bonnie Mattice Martell and was a son of the late Archie and Olive VanWie Martell. After proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, Archie retired from Hoosick Valley Construction where he was employed as a civil engineer.
Archie loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, skiing and enjoyed the Olympic Games.  In addition to his outdoor activities, Archie enjoyed woodworking, cabinet making and making fly rods. Mr. Martell was an active member in the Early American Engine club.
In addition to his wife Bonnie, Archie is survived by his children, Jennifer Lancia of Windham, Maine, Naomi (Bill) Martell of Rutland, Vermont, Heather (Daniel) St. Gelais of Halfmoon, New York, Mark (Dawn) Martell of Whitehall, New York, Mitch (Leeanne) Martell of Whitehall New York Michael Martell of Menands, New York and Casey Van Alstyne of Guilderland Center, New York, and his brother Clarence “Hoppy” (Madeline) Martell. Archie is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Archie was predeceased by his infant son Archie and his son Mathew Martell, a grandson Nathan Martell and his siblings Doris, Carol, and LeGrand “Lee” Martell.Archie leaves behind his beloved dog Bear. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the America Legion Post #977,  P.O. Box 461 Altamont, NY 12009 or the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
