Windham- Arthur Darrow Blanden, age 93 died peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on March 30, 2015. He was a resident at the Firemen's Home in Hudson, NY.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alda Doris Miller.
He is survived by his children Sandra Blanden Sasso (Joseph) of Huntsville, AL, Martin Douglas Blanden (Laura) of Ashland, NY and Linda Blanden Naumowicz (Edward) of Scotia, NY; seven grandchildren, five great- grandchildren; two sisters, Marge Alexander and Lois Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arthur was born May 3, 1921, to Walter and Alice Blanden in Syracuse, NY and his childhood was spent in Homer, NY. After graduating from Homer High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served during WWII aboard the USS Hailey in the South Pacific. He married Alda Doris Miller in 1945 and they made their home and welcomed their children in Windham, NY.
A tool and die maker by trade, he worked for American Thermostat in South Cario and Audio Sears in Stamford. Over the years Arthur also worked as a carpenter, he was the proprietor of Ten Pin Lanes, and he and his wife ran the Homestead Boarding House, both in Windham.
Arthur was committed to and active in his community. He was a parishioner of the Windham United Methodist Church. He was a fireman with the Windham Hose Company for 64 years. He was a past master of the Mountaintop Masonic Lodge and he was a member of the Mountaintop VFW. Arthur was an accomplished athlete, excelling at golf and bowling and he was a faithful Yankee fan.
A funeral is scheduled for April 8, 2015, at 1:00PM at the Windham United Methodist Church with a reception to follow at the Masonic Temple. Pastor Dong Hyun Choi will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Arthur's life.
