Barbara L. Dexter

Barbara L. Dexter, 85 formerly from Troy, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024. Born on July 31, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Minnie (Gaige) Dexter. 

Barbara was a 1960 graduate of Berne Knox Central School District and worked as a Production Clerk for 43 years at The Workshop, Inc. in Menands, NY. Her only job right out of high-school until her retirement in 2003. Back in 1979, Barbara solidified her independence and moved into the O’Neil Apartments of Troy and was the most senior tenant when she moved out in 2022. Barbara was a member of the Indoor Sports Club Inc. and of the Knox Reformed Church and she enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends. Barbara had a strong love of family.

Barbara is survived by her sister Nancy and her brother Richard (Linda), her sister-in-laws Ruth of the late Charles, and Carol (Tubbs) of the late Robert, her nieces Janet (Craig) Swider, Marie (Leonard) Durham, Rachel Sherman, Jennifer Dexter, Amy Boyt and Melissa (Timothy) Rivenberg, her nephews Dennis Dexter, Glen Dexter, William Hofmann and Brian (Maricar) Dexter and many great nieces and nephews. 

She is predeceased by siblings Merlin (Ilene) Dexter, Cora (Joseph) Spadaro, Mildred (John) Hofmann, Charles, Florence, Shirley, Robert and infant Janet. In addition, nephews Robert, Ronald and Daniel and nieces Cheryl and Rose and dear friends Patricia, Paul and John.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Barbara's family Wednesday, August 7th from 9-11am in the Fredendall Funeral Home,199 Main Street, Altamont. A prayer service will immediately follow the visitation in the funeral home at 11am. Interment will be in the Dexter family plot in Knox Cemetery following the prayer service.
