Carl C. Stolzenburg

d. November 5, 2018

Berne- Carl Charles Leopold Stolzenburg, 85, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 5, 2018. He was born in West Berne, NY, on August 14, 1933. He was the son of the late Herbert H. G. Stolzenburg and Hulda Kuhn Stolzenburg. Carl was a lifelong resident of the Town of Wright and attended Schoharie Central School. He was a lifelong dairy farmer, taking over the farm operation with his mother and brother Herman upon the death of their father in 1948, and then farming with his wife Faye and their family beginning in 1954. In 1983, Carl began farming with his son Mark. Carl served as a member and Commissioner of the Gallupville Fire Department. He also was a 4-H leader for many years and a longtime member of the Hayshakers Square Dance Club. He and Faye enjoyed traveling annually to Mississippi, and also across the US, Canada, and to Europe with good friends. He maintained an abundant interest in local history and storytelling. His great love in "retirement" was finding, restoring, and sharing antique International pickup trucks and Ford tractors. There was no project he couldn't resurrect and make right. Carl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Faye (Brand), their son Mark Stolzenburg (Nan), and their daughters Lynn Motschmann (Spencer) and Mari-Beth Stolzenburg (Thomas Marshall); also four grandchildren Evan (Elizabeth), Hannah (Joshua Falkenmeyer), Lindsay, and Bryan; three great grandchildren Levi, Isaac, and Asa Motschmann; his brother Herman Stolzenburg (Thelma), niece Diane McEneany (Kevin), and nephews Will Stolzenburg (Kathy), and Paul Stolzenburg (Caroline), and three grand nephews and nieces. He was pre-deceased by daughter Lisa Stolzenburg. Calling hours will be from 12 noon to 2 PM Saturday, November 10, 2018 with service at 2 PM at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont. Private burial to follow. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gallupville Fire Department, Gallupville House Association, or the Scho-Wright Ambulance Service in Schoharie.
