ALTAMONT - Carol E. Roemer, 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family after a seven year courageous battle with breast cancer. Carol was born in Buffalo, N.Y. to Dorothy DeCoux Schmuck and the late Ethan Allen Schmuck.
Carol was a graduate of Buffalo State College and taught elementary education in the Guilderland School District for 27 years. She was also a resident of Altamont in excess of 45 years.
Carol will always be remembered for her courage in the face of a devastating disease as well as her soft spoken demeanor. She was a devoted and caring daughter, mother, grandmother and friend.
Carol loved her cats, and working in her flower beds. She loved her Maple Avenue home and its big back yard for of all of her grandchildren to play their games and run wild. She loved Cape Cod, walking and taking a big book to the beach. She loved sports, loved to dance, and she loved to laugh.
In addition to her mother Dorothy, who is a resident of Atria Senior Living in Albany, Carol is survived by her devoted and loving daughters Amy Chiplock of Medway, Massachusetts and Ali Steeves of Sandwich, Massachusetts and their husbands Mark and Dave; her cherished grandchildren Tyler, Reagan and Christian Chiplock and Jake and Kyle Steeves and her brother Robert A. Schmuck (Janet) of Reno, Nevada.
Her family expresses their heartfelt thanks to all of Carol’s special friends who provided her with loving support and care during her illness, especially David Warner, Anne Snyder and Carol Lennebacker, all of Altamont, as well as her caring medical providers with special thanks to Dr. Joseph Dudek and the entire staff at New York Oncology and Hemotology.
A memorial service and celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Friday, August 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Altamont Reformed Church, on Lincoln Avenue in the Village.
