Christine Marshall was born to loving parents John and Helen (Marszalek) Skorupa in Buffalo, NY. Graduating from Mt. St. Joseph Academy, and SUNY Fredonia, she received a Masters in Political Science from SUNY Binghamton, prior to 35 years of dedicated public service, most of them in the NY Department of Civil Service.
Chris was the beloved spouse of Deb Hext; they were soul mates sharing life and love for 35 years. Chris had many diverse long-time interests, including politics, tennis, golf, and vacationing with loved ones. After "retirement," she pursued her lifelong political avocation, participating as Town of Guilderland Democratic Committee-person, and serving her second term as a trustee of the Village of Altamont Board of Trustees. Chris poured her heart and soul into everything she did. Whether in her career, her public service, her friendships, or her family relationships, she uniformly and generously gave far more than she received.
She is deeply missed and survived by Deb her brother Tom Skorupa (Jan Voshart) and niece Tara Skorupa, sister-in-law Carol (Roger) Premo, niece Trista, nephew Jason, grand-nieces and -nephews Justin, Brittney, Kassidy, Anna, and Ethan; countless devoted and well-loved friends, too many to mention, and her faithful West Highland Terrier companion Dooley.
Chris passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the loving arms of her spouse Deb at St. Peter's Community Hospice after a relatively brief but intense struggle with lymphoma. The family extends special thanks to the professional and caring nurses, physicians, and staff at St. Peter's Hospital and Community Hospice.
The Visitation will be held at St. Lucy/St. Bernadette Church, 109 Grand, Altamont, NY 12009 on Tuesday, April 19, from 4 to 7 pm, and the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, April 20 at 10 am, followed by a reception at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chris's memory to North Atlantic Westie Rescue, to St. Peter's Community Hospice or to St. Lucy/St. Bernadette Church.
