Nevins, Daniel J. Berne -
Daniel (Dan) Joseph Nevins, 72 of Berne, passed away quietly at home Saturday, January 14, 2023 after a long illness. He was born in Smithtown, L.I. NY and was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Biglen) Nevins Sr. The Nevins family enjoyed their summer home in Westerlo, NY for several years before permanently moving there when Dan was 14 years of age. He was a graduate of Berne-Knox High School. Dan’s early career was in the trucking industry, becoming a Northeast Regional Manager and retiring early. He had a wide variety of interests, especially breeding and raising Greyhound dogs. He was an excellent cook and master vintner. Dan was an avid NY Yankees fan much to the dismay of many in his family. He was known for his gentle manner, kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Dan was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary Nevins, Sr., his sister Catherine (Charles) Costello, his brother John Nevins and sister-in-law Nancy Lendrum. He is survived by his wife Sharon Lendrum Nevins, his brothers, Thomas Nevins, Jr., Robert Nevins (Carol), James (Susan) Nevins and his sister Bernadette Nevins. Along with his birth family he is remembered by his in-laws, Steven (Suzanne) Lendrum, Connie (John) McCarthy, Richard Rivenburgh and Judy Nevins. He is lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by his lifelong friend, Stephen (Nancy) Lockwood. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Saturday January 21, 2023, at 10 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m. at the Helderberg Lutheran Church, 1728 Helderberg Trail, Berne, NY. Interment will be in the spring at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Berne, NY. In lieu of flowers donations to the Helderberg Ambulance Squad, 978 Cole Hill Rd., East Berne, NY 12059 would be appreciated for all their assistance to Dan over the years.
