ALTAMONT- David A. Millington, 86, retired USAF Major, passed away on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31 2010 at Ellis Hospital. Born on July 21 1923, son of the late Cassius and Winifred Millington, he was raised in Jonesville, NY. During WWII, he was a distinguished B-24 bomber pilot, flying over 19 missions. During a mission he was captured and he later escaped his captivity in June 1944. He continued to serve in the USAF until 1965. He met and married his late wife Vera Lints Millington on April 1, 1945. He built their home in Altamont, NY where he resided for the rest of his life. He was employed by General Electric and worked as a senior mechanical designer, during which he continued to serve in the USAF Reserve. He also worked at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. He is survived by two daughters, Denise Ghostlaw of NY, Deidra (Robert Jr.) Ewerth of PA; a son David (Donna) Millington of Ohio; 8 grandchildren, John, Karen, Sandy, Janelle, Jared, Kendra, Karisa and Aubree; 6 great grandchildren, Cole, Reed, Chloe, Cassius, Megan, Cara; two sisters Blanche and Kay. David is predeceased by his wife Vera and daughter Davia Millington. A committal service will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 10:30 AM on Friday June 4 2010, followed by a memorial service at the Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 12:30 PM. Friends may call on Thursday, June 3,2010 from 6 to 8 PM at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in David's memory to the International Bible Society (1820 Jet Stream Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80921) to provide Bible's to active service members.
