Knox- Delia (Barnie) Palombo died peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, NY. Barnie was born in Chicopee, MA on June 13, 1922. She was the daughter of John Barnish and Edwina Le Febvre. Barnie moved to Knox in 1956. She married Harry Palombo and together they opened and ran the Township Tavern until his death. Barnie ran the tavern by herself until she was appointed the Registrar of Vital Statics of the Town of Knox. She was later elected as Tax Collector of Knox, a position she held for twenty plus years. In her lifetime, Barnie won many awards for her service to the community and the Democratic Party. She was a member of Plank Road Association, Senior Citizens of Altamont and Knox Women's Fire Auxiliary. Survivors include many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and a loving daughter-in-law; a special thank you to Mary and Dana Sherman and Charlotte and Frank Fuss who supported her for many years. She was predeceased by her loving husband Harry; her brothers Dick and Francis Barnish; several step children and relatives. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10AM at St. Lucy / St Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Grand Street, Altamont, NY . Interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barnie's memory to St Lucy / St Bernadette Catholic Church PO Box 678, Altamont, NY 12009.
