Doris E. (Brown) Smith, 93, died peacefully at her home on April 12, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Edna Brown. Beloved wife of the late Stephen Smith.
Doris was born March 10, 1929, in South Glens Falls NY. Doris graduated from Warrensburg Central School in 1945. Following graduation, Doris attended nursing school and completed a degree in practical nursing. Stephen and Doris were married in 1948 and built their family home in Schenectady raising all four children at that home.
Her family will remember Doris' life was full. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great & great-great grandmother. Our Mom was a strong, caring, well-traveled woman that cared deeply for her family and the many grandchildren in her life. She had unwavering love for each of her children, and was a champion for her grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever she was needed. You could always feel her love in all she did. Doris and Stephen camped and traveled to every state in their RV making many friends along the way. She loved flying with her son bear-viewing and traveling the rivers of Alaska. Doris was a longtime leader of the 4H Pine Pals Club, loved bird watching, reading, doing NY Times crosswords, and attending the Brown family reunions every year.
Doris is survived by her son Tim (Vicki) Smith, daughter Judy Smith-Knight, daughter-in-law Kathryn Smith, and son-in-law Robert LeClair; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, her sisters Fay (Ray) Wagus and Helen (Peter) Dykeman, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband Doris is predeceased by her son Daniel Smith, daughter Suzanne LeClair, and her brothers Charles, John, Ernest, and Paul.
Special thanks to the wonderful, compassionate caregivers Karen, Heather, Theresa, Derrica and longtime neighbor and cherished friend Amelia that all provided companionship and support for Doris to remain in her home.
Doris will be greatly missed by all.
