Dorothy M. Jacobson

Dorothy M. Jacobson of Voorheesville, N. Y., went home to our Lord on April 12, 2009. Born on February 17, 1924, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Howard and Maude (Van Alstyne) Shank. She graduated from Voorheesville High School in 1942. She was married for 42 years to the love of her life, her late husband, Stanley O. Jacobson, who died in 1985. It was very fitting that her passing occurred in the home that she and her "Stan" built almost sixty years ago. Her tap root was there and she was surrounded by the warmth of her many cherished memories. Dorothy loved country music, the Dodgers, pinochle, traveling, baking, growing African violets and tending to her home and loved ones. She was a devoted member of the Helderberg Reformed Church of Guilderland Center, NY and its Reformed Church Women of Helderberg. She spent hours cooking for the annual dinners that helped to financially support her church for many years. Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers Harold, Carl and Clifford Shank and her sons-in-law Roger F. Brown and Robert J. Kelly. She is survived by her loving daughters, Patricia I. Kelly of Green Valley, AZ and Jean D. Brown of Schenectady, NY. She, also, leaves behind sisters-in-law and many special nieces and nephews. A wonderful wife, mother, aunt and friend, as well as a caregiver, Dorothy will be missed by many whom she touched with her loving heart. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont, NY from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be begin on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Helderberg Reformed Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
