Maher, Edward A. Jr, 83 passed away suddenly on November 9, 2009. Born in Garden City, NY, he resided there until retiring to the Evergreen Club of Palm City, Florida in 1986. He also maintained a home in Windham, NY. During WW II, he served in the Navy aboard the USS Franklin. He graduated Holy Cross College in 1949. He was president of Maher Oil Company and, before retirement, was associated with Paine Webber Jackson and Curtis. He was an avid golfer, swimming instructor to the actor Alan Ladd, alpine skier and marksman. He travelled extensively, owned thoroughbred racehorses, and played cards for recreational purposes only (at least, that is what he told his son-in-law, Greg) He is survived by his wife, Jean C. Maher, their five children: Edward (Mary Anne), Robert (Annette), Michael (Kathy), Paul (Kathleen) and Sheila (Gregory); and eleven grand children.
