Edwin "Dinny" K. Kirk, 72, of Slingerlands, NY passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Born in Bath, NY on December 11, 1941, Ed was the only child of the late Edwin W. and Virginia A. (McDowell) Kirk. He was a 1960 graduate of Voorheesville Central Schools and a 1963 graduate of SUNY Cobleskill with a degree in ornamental horticulture. He was a member of the American Association of Nurserymen and received the Guernsey Award in multiple years for Excellency in Landscaping. His business, Ed Kirk Landscape Designer & Contractor was a staple in the community for over 40 years. His specialties included brick and cut flag walkways and patios, decorative stone walls and picturesque landscapes, ponds and waterfalls. His work can be admired throughout the Capital Region. Besides his work, Ed loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow. He loved boating and fishing and was an avid NY Giants fan.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Weber) Kirk; a son, Christopher E. Kirk (Donna) of Voorheesville, NY; a daughter, Jeannine E. Freer of Clifton Park, NY; grandsons, Christopher M. Kirk and Brendan C. Kirk of Voorheesville, NY; and granddaughters, Emily E. Freer and Abby N. Freer of Clifton Park, NY. Brother-in-law of Fred Weber (Beatrice) of Wantagh, NY and Ann Alboum (Lionel) of Saratoga Springs, NY. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-8pm on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont, NY. Funeral service will be conducted at 11:30am on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the New Scotland Presbyterian Church, 2010 New Scotland Road, Slingerlands, NY. Interment will immediately follow at the New Scotland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Slingerlands.
