Elizabeth Louise Day (Eigner) 9/22/1939-12/10/2022 

Elizabeth (Betty) Day, formerly of Altamont NY, died peacefully Saturday December 10, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loving children. She was born in Manhattan, NY in 1939 to John and Helen Eigner. She raised and loved six children with her former husband Frederick Day. She spent her life in service to others. 

Betty was a proud graduate of St. Vincent's Nursing School in New York City and had a sixty-year nursing career. She was one of the first RNs to care for patients who had undergone open heart surgery. Her patients were treated with compassion, dignity, and dedication. She became a restaurateur in partnership with her daughter Michelle for 18 years; running a home bake shop, coffee shop / catering business for NYSUT in Albany, NY and a fine dining establishment called the Cheldon House in Berne, NY. She concluded her career as a school nurse at Farnsworth Middle School and as a private duty nurse at the age of 80. Her energy was boundless. She was an activist who followed the Catholic Family Worker Movement. She was a devout member of St. Lucy's Parish in Altamont, NY where she was a member of the Peace and Justice Committee. She was also a Thomas Merton Scholar studying to be a lay Franciscan. 

Betty is survived by her brother Jack Eigner from Bellerose, NY, her sister Theresa Avery from Corinth, NY; her children Mary Regatuso of Mount Morris, NY; Margaret Lloyd of Albany, NY; Lillian Day of Tilton, NH and William Day (Tricia) of Canton, Connecticut; Daughters in law Colleen Rooney of Clifton Park, NY; Donna (Chris) Day of Saranac Lake, NY and son in law, Dan (Colleen) Teal of Esperance, NY. Her grandchildren: Gina and JoAnna Regatuso, Alicia Stanley (Peter), Syl Simmons, Julia (Mack) Day, Terra (Jerod) Ellis, Patricia (Todd) Brown, Kelly (Vince) Samolis, Joshua Teal, JenniferTeal, Jessica Lee, Garret Day, Jude (Jeff) Day and Jacob Day and 18 great grandchildren. Many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends. 

Betty is predeceased by her parents John and Helen (McCarthy) Eigner; Son John Day, daughter Michelle Teal, Sister-in-law Rosemary Eigner and her niece Christine Carella. 

Calling Hours will be in Fredendall Funeral Home on 199 Main Street, Altamont NY on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Lucy Church on 122 Grand St. Altamont, NY on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lakes Region VNA and Hospice Care, Waukewan Street, Meredith, NH 03253 or Albany Catholic Worker Community 45 Trinity Place, Albany, NY 12202.
