BERNE — Ellen D. Yarmchuk, formerly of Berne, died on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at her home, in Rogersville, Tennessee. She was 92.
Mrs. Yarmchuk was born on Nov. 21, 1921, in Troy, to the late William and Julia (née Satterlee) Dobbs.
Ellen graduated from SUNY Plattsburg and received her Masters at SUNY Albany. She taught Home Economics at Berne Knox Westerlo Central School for 32 years. She was charter member for the Berne Historical Society, a member of the Foxenkill Grange, and a life member of the Berne Fire Company Auxiliary. She was a member of the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church, an associate member of the Berne Reformed Church and a member of the Ladies Society of the Berne Reformed Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy E. Becker, and her husband, Marvin, of Rogersville, Tennesee; her son, Peter D. Yarmchuk, of Mesa, Arizona; her grandchildren, Peter Becker (Robin Meszaros), of Berne, and Barbara, Kathy, and Sam of Arizona; her great-grandchildren, Lacey and Eden Becker, of East Berne, and Brandon, John, Erin, Travis, Matthew, Cody, and Austin, of Arizona.
Her husband, Anthony Yarmchuk, died before her, as did her daughter-in-law, Jody Yarmchuk.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the First Reformed Church of Berne, 1664 Helderberg Trail, Berne, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Grange Memorial Service will be held at the church at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the church on Dec. 3 at 11 a.m., with interment to follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont.
