Emily J. Nicholls

Emily June Nicholls, 89 of Hunter, NY died on Thursday, Feb.10,2011 at Ten Broeck Commons, Lake Katrine, NY. She was born in East Jewett, NY on June 8, 1921 to William and Jennie (Johnsen) Petersen. She was predeceased by her husband Charles "Don" NichollsSr. and sisters Marion Radcliffe, Jeanette Young and Sylvia Pierce. She is survived by her son Charles Donald Nicholls Jr. and wife Linda of Hunter; her grandchildren Jody Nicholls Murphy and husband John of Hunter; Rebecca Nicholls Hoagland and husband William of Hunter; four great-granddaughters, Hannah Hoagland, Ellie Hoagland, Eden Murphy, and Tess Murphy; her sister Martha Bonestell and husband John of East Jewett; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Emily graduated from Hunter Tannersville Central School in 1940. Shortly after marrying, Emily worked at Pratt and Whitney, Hartford, Connecticut, helping the war effort. After World War II, Emily and her husband Don, returned home and operated "Don's Arrow Cleaners" in Hunter for over thirty years. Friends and family are invited to call at Decker's Funeral Home in Windham, NY on Wednesday, Feb.16, 2011 from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm. There will be a service conducted at 8pm by Pastor Karen Monk of the Kaaterskill United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kaaterskill United Methodist Church, Tannersville, NY or the East Jewett Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
