Guilderland Center - Ernest W. Friebel, 87, passed away suddenly Friday, November 1, 2013. He was born in Albany, NY on June 5, 1926 to Otto and Catherine (Olsmit) Friebel.
Ernest married the love of his life Bessie Wilson on November 8, 1947. Together they had four children Walter E. (Sandra), William A. (Deborah), Elisabeth M. Whitman (Charles) and Steve L. (Adrian).
Ernest loved camping with family and friends. He was very much involved in the Good Sam’s Camping Association and the National Campers and Hikers Association. He loved camping the East Coast, Ontario and Central USA .He was an active member of the Guilderland Elks Lodge 2480 and was Elk of the Year in xxxx. He and Bessie had traveled cross country four times since his retirement from General Electric. He loved fishing and it didn’t matter if it was on a lake or creek side. He loved teaching the art of fishing to his children and grandchildren especially when vacationing. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great grand children’s accomplishments. Ernest was a real Mr. Fixit and was always working on a project. He enjoyed passing down this knowledge to his children. He was a farmer at heart, loved being in the garden and took pride in his rhubarb.
Along with his wife and children, he is survived by his grandchildren Vicki Hubert, Katrina, Daniel, Corey Friebel, Matthew and Brian Friebel, Christopher and Marc Whitman and Dylan Friebel; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents and six siblings.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours at Fredendall Funeral Home 199 Main Street, Altamont on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 4-8PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday November 6, 2013 at 11AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2850 Guilderland Ave., Rotterdam.
