Jean Hungerford Krull died August 24, 2023 at home surrounded by loving family. She celebrated her 100th birthday in May, a WWII Navy veteran, consummate homemaker and a lover of music, books, gardening and baseball.
The daughter of Isaac and Alma Stevens Hungerford, Jean was born in Troy May 27, 1923, the first of 4 girls. Jean graduated from Altamont High School in 1940. She worked as secretary for insurance agents in Albany and the Army Depot in Guilderland Center during WWII. In 1945, she joined the US Navy WAVES and performed with the Singing Platoon and the Drum and Bugle Corps. She served as an instrument flying instructor using LINK Trainer flight simulators in Atlanta.
After the war Jean married Norman Wilson of Altamont. They moved to the Buffalo area, where she raised 5 children. In 1957 she married Robert Krull and assisted with his Nationwide Insurance agency. Upon retirement, they moved to Florida and after his death Jean returned to Altamont in 1999 to reside with her daughters.
Jean is survived by daughters Kirby Wilson, Kristin Wilson Casey (Robert) and Kathryn Krull Gibbs of Altamont; sister Barbara Leahy of Brandon, FL, grandchildren: Jeannette Wilson Pape, Norman Wilson IV, Adam Wilson, Austin Gibbs, Kelsey Gibbs and 9 great grandchildren. Husband Robert died before her as did sisters Marcia Perlee and Margaret Ackley, son Norman Wilson III, daughter Kimberly Wilson and grandson Jay Keefer.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 10th at 3:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, 140 Maple Ave, Altamont, NY 12009.
