Joan Ann Schinnerer

Joan Ann Schinnerer On May 28, 2010 Joan went to her heavenly home. Joan was born on November 23, 1933 in Colonie to Harry G. Schinnerer, Sr. and Grace T. Schinnerer. After attending schools in Colonie and Albany, Joan graduated from Draper High School, Rotterdam, Class of 1952. In her 11th year, Joan received the Elmira College Key Award, a distinguished honor for Joan. Joan has resided with her sister Jeanne and husband Howard Borden for the past seven years. Her surviving loved ones are Grace Jane Carl (Herbert), Andrew M. (Pat) and Arthur D. (Sylvia) Schinnerer and Kathleen Schinnerer, many nieces, nephews and spouses, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends. Besides her parents, Joan is predeceased by her loving brothers Harry G., Jr. (Ruth), Don A. and John H. and many loved ones. A love of sports and dedicated discipline helped Joan become very successful in softball, basketball and bowling. She bowled throughout the 1960's and 1970's in many leagues in Schenectady with the best and enjoyed many friendships and tournaments. Joan served her Lord as a Deacon at Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, Guilderland, while also teaching a Sunday school "Special Friends" class designed for young people with disabilities. When she moved to Albany, Joan transferred membership to Westminster Presbyterian Church on State Street and once again served as a Deacon. After leaving Schenectady Savings & Loan Assoc. in the late 1950's, Joan worked for NYS Civil Service where she ended her career as a Senior Administrative Analyst. Retiring after 30 years of service, Joan enjoyed many years of retirement. Joan will be interred next to her Mother in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Prospect Hill Cemetery at 11:00, Thursday, June 3, 2010. The family wants to express their sincere thanks to Daughters of Sarah Day Care Program, Teresian House Sisters and Carmel Gardens East staff for the kind care given to Joan, and, to Rev. James Reisner and Deacons and to all who remembered Joan throughout the years with prayers and expressions of love.
