Rotterdam NY: John R. Van Syckle III (Jack) passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2022, at the Schenectady Center in Rotterdam after a brief stay there. Jack was an avid sports enthusiast. Following Retirement from Albany Medical Center Hospital Print Shop, Jack moved to Melbourne, Fla returning to Rotterdam, NY in 2015. Other employment includes Blue Spruce Farms, Inc., Altamont NY; Acme Press-Kompkorner, Schenectady, NY and NYS Assembly Print Shop, Albany NY. Sexton St. John’s Lutheran Church, Altamont NY. One memorable historical event was the ringing of the Bells across America, also sounding in Altamont, he continuously rang the St. John’s bell, in unison with the Altamont Reformed Church bell for a 1/2 hr. celebrating the end of the Vietnam War in 1973. Community volunteer involvement included: Altamont Reformed Church Choir and events volunteer; Altamont Fire Department, former President of the Altamont Rescue Squad and loyal volunteer for Make a Wish Foundation playing the role of Santa Claus.
Survivors include his children John R. Van Syckle IV aka Rusty, Clifton Park NY; Laura E. Reynolds (Todd) Rotterdam NY; Daniel R. Van Syckle (Sharon) Melbourne Fla, and their mother, Jean L. La Crosse, Altamont, NY. Loving Grandfather, aka Poppy Jack, to Matthew P. Vicalvi (Brittney) Glenville NY; Desiree M. & Kyle M. Van Syckle, Clifton Park NY; Pre-deceased by his parents John R. Van Syckle Jr. & Evelyn Reign. Brothers: Donald, William & James Van Syckle, nieces, nephews, cousins, Easton, PA. Also extended family in Scotia, NY and Melbourne Fla.
Friends & family invited to join us in a memorial service in Jack's honor to be held 3pm Saturday Jan, 7, 2023 at Awaken Church, 935 Balltown Rd, Niskayuna, NY 12309. Reception will follow immediately in the Fellowship Hall. This facility is handicap accessible. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring in Fairview Cemetery, Altamont NY
