June V. Smith

Guilderland- June Helena Vander Veer Smith, age 87, died April 22, 2014 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. She was born on June 24, 1926 at home in Scotia NY to Willard and Fanny Burgor Vander Veer. She graduated from Altamont High School with honors, and was a very active member of the Altamont Alumni Association. She married Charles Smith Jr. on Feb.1, 1952. She worked at Guilderland Central School as a secretary and retired in 1991. She was a founding member of the Lynwood Reformed Church and was a faithful member of the choir. She also volunteered and worked in the food pantry. She enjoyed traveling, bowling in the Smoke League, cross country skiing around Lake Placid, and many happy hours at Bell Brook Pond. She is survived by her sister Fanny Jean Pickett of Amsterdam, NY as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her brothers Pierre and Garrett Henry and her sister Vivian Sitterley. A calling hour will take place on Sunday April 27, 2014 from 1:00pm-2:00pm at the Lynwood Reformed Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00pm. Interment will be on Monday April 28, 2014 at 1:00pm at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Lynwood Reformed Church, 3714 Carmen Rd. Schenectady, NY 12303.
