Katherine Smith

Altamont- Katherine T. Karsen Smith, 74, of Maple Ave. Altamont, died Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Teresian House after a short stay. Kay was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 17, 1940 and lived in South Ozone Park, Queens. She graduated from Dominican Commercial High School in 1958. After high school, she became a secretary for Colgate-Palmolive until she married Francis Rhatigan, and together they had five children. She married her second husband, Denis P. Smith, ESQ in January of 1981. She moved to the Capital District in 1989. She was a secretary for the NYS Division of State Police from 1992-2002, finishing her career as a Keyboard Specialist. She is survived by her children Kathleen Rodriguez, Patricia Groeber (Al Pylman), Kevin Rhatigan (Thomas James), Craig Rhatigan (Rose Baker)and Colleen (Martin) Itzkowitz; her grandchildren Daniel Rhatigan, Emily Nicki, Tyler Itzkowitz, Jake Itzkowitz, Evan Itzkowitz, Eileen Baker, Nate Vliet, Murray Vliet; her brother Conrad and his wife Danka Karsen. She was predeceased by her husband Denis P. Smith, ESQ in May 1985 Calling will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 3-6PM at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont with a funeral service to follow at 6PM.
