Kenneth Andrew Rappleyea, 90, formerly of Prattsville, NY, passed away on September 25, 2013 after a brief illness.
He was born in Lexington, NY, September 10, 1923 to the late Claude A. and Mable (Deyo) Rappleyea. Ken graduated from Gilboa-Conesville Central School, and attended accounting classes at SUNY Oneonta. He married Hope Ann Sohmer on April 6, 1946 in Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Flushing, NY.
In his lifetime, Ken was a dairy farmer, cauliflower grower, operated an Esso gas station, and owned a Chrysler dealership. He was a Village Trustee in Stamford, NY from 1965 - 1970 and served as mayor from 1970 -1977. During semi-retirement, Ken and Hope lived in Florida where Ken sold real estate and was the manager and instructor of an H&R Block income tax office. They returned to Prattsville in 1988. He was an avid golfer and liked to play cards with friends and family. He was a very caring and gentle person with a sharp mind and quick wit.
Ken is survived by his four children Darlene Emily (Allan) Krick, Kenneth Paul (Kelly) Rappleyea, Sandra Diane Rappleyea (companion R. Dan Whiteman), and Cleita Hope (Eric) Harvey. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two nieces, and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Lexington United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be 10-11:30AM with the service to follow. Services will be officiated by the Reverend Rebecca Town. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville, NY.
