Berne- Margaret L. (Peg) Shultes, 74, died at home with family on May 18, 2009 after a long illness. Peg was a lifelong resident of Berne. She graduated from the Berne Knox Central School in 1953. She was employed by the Berne Knox Westerlo Elementary school for 30 years. She was a Life Member of the Berne Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady and the First Reformed Church of Berne. Peg is survived by her husband of 55 years Arthur I. Shultes; a daughter Cathy (Robert) Allen of Knox; two sons Kevin (Christine) Shultes of Rotterdam and Kyle (Paula) Shultes of Williamson, NY; eight grandchildren Timothy (Amanda), Jessica and Shaun Allen, Stacey, Shannon, Kendall, Allison and Meredith Shultes; a sister Elizabeth Emory of Albany as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by five brothers James, William, Franklin, Giles and Paul Swint and a sister Agatha Swint Porter. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 am on Thursday May 21, 2009 at the First Reformed Church of Berne followed by an interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont. The Berne Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary service will be at 7:30 pm on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Margaret Shultes to the Berne Knox Westerlo Central School c/o Ellen Grasek 1738 Helderberg Trail, Berne, NY 12023.
