Mary Mattice, of Altamont, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 76 Born on October 8, 1948, in Albany, Mary lived a life defined by love, generosity, and quiet strength. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Mattice, who passed away in 2011. Their bond was a true testament to lasting love, and we take comfort in knowing that they are now reunited, forever in each other's arms.
Mary dedicated her life to her family A stay-at-home mom who also worked cleaning houses on the side, she was the foundation and heart of her home Her days were spent raising her children and later helping to raise her grandchildren-watching them, guiding them, and offering endless support while their parents worked Her home was always open, her arms always ready to hug, and her love never in short supply.
To many, she was simply "Nana"-not just to her grandchildren, but to anyone who needed a little extra love Children gravitated to her naturally She found joy in their laughter, comfort in music, and purpose in helping others Whether you needed a babysitter, a warm meal, a listening ear, or just a smile, Mary was there without hesitation.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Laura Mattice (Skippy), and her son, Jim Mattice Jr (Teri) She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Joe Bogdanowicz (Jessica), Amber Skinner (Dan), Mariah Grant, and Jessica Mattice; and her cherished great-grandchildren: Connor Bogdanowicz, Aiden, Joses, and Ariana She leaves behind her loving brother, John Slaver (Kathy), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Family and friends are invited and may visit with Mary's family on Monday, April 21, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Fredendall Funeral Home 199 Main Street, Altamont. Burial will be on May 12th at 10am in Thompson's Lake Rural Cemetery.
