Matthew S. Von Haugg was a loving, caring and hardworking family man. He died unexpectedly at his home in Knox on April 21, 2023.
Matt was born on March 28, 1968 in Albany to Mark and Patricia Von Haugg.
He grew up in his family's home in Knox with his parents and three siblings - Mark, Morgan, and Amanda.
He graduated from Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School in 1986 and went on to Wyoming Technical School where he acquired his trade skills in heavy equipment mechanics.
Matt began his career working for Rupp Rental and Sales Corp as a heavy equipment mechanic and operator before ending with Callanan Industries.
In 1991, he wed his high school sweetheart Susan Girodias of Knox and built their family's home on the Girodias family farm.
Matt is best known for being outgoing, charismatic and humorous. He enjoyed being outside, fishing, hunting, gardening and riding recreational vehicles around his property. He relished time with his family and the family pets, especially his beloved dog, Reagan.
Matt would also always be willing to drop what he was doing to lend a hand to friends, family and coworkers, whether it being a simple phone call or showing up day or night.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Patricia, wife Susan, and their four children; Matthew (Cindy) of Goose Creek, SC, Joshua (Colby) of Coon Rapids, MN, Marleana of Goose Creek, SC and Tarah of Knox, NY. He is also survived by his brothers and sister, Mark (Lynette) of Shelburne Falls, MA, Morgan (Linda) of Pikeville, NC and Amanda (Walt) of Little Falls, NY. Matt is also survived by his nieces and nephews; Jason, Morgan, Sarah, Stephen, Samantha, Walter and Charlotte, as well as many cousins.
Calling hours will be held at Rock Road Chapel (96 Rock Road, Berne, NY 12023) on Saturday April 29 from 11am-1pm, with a service to follow at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mike Rowe Works Foundation online at http://mikeroweworks.org/
