Merritt Glennon, 69, of Altamont passed away late in the evening on Friday, March 27th at St.
Peter's Hospital in Albany due to complications from surgery. Merritt is survived by his beloved
wife of 41 years, Patricia Rafferty Glennon, his three daughters Sara Glennon (Sean Connery),
Rachel Drake (Christopher), and Erin Glennon, his granddaughter, Brigid Drake, his brother,
William Glennon (Diane Boniecki), nephews Ryan & Brendan Glennon and cousins Amelia
Hallam (Sean) and Jeffrey Dreves (Marlene).
Merritt will be remembered for his love of history, reading, genealogy, and music? his continued
involvement in the community including past president of the Altamont Free Library, Guilderland
School district PTA, Guilderland soccer club, and president emeritus of the Schenectady County
Historical Society.
Merritt was born in Schenectady New York to Ruth Esther Larkins and Edward Anthony
Glennon. He graduated from Schalmont High School in Rotterdam New York and received a
Bachelor of Science from SUNY New Paltz in History Education. He worked for the New York
State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (formerly the Office of Mental
Retardation and Developmental Disabilities) for 35 years, retiring in 2001.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Lucy/St. Bernadette Church, 109 Grand St., Altamont, at 3
p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st. All those wishing to pay their respects are welcome. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Altamont Community Food Pantry box 678 Altamont NY
12009, or Mabee Farm historic site, where Merritt volunteered in various capacities during his
retirement. Donations to the Mabee Farm can be made through the Schenectady County
