Micheline Houck
Micheline (Mimi) Mary Houck was born on May 8, 1934 in Montagne France living a full 89 years until
she passed peacefully at home on Sunday, July 30, 2023. Mimi’s life began with the endurance of WWII
in occupied France, the loss of her Father, and the overseas relocation to the United States at the age
11.
At the age of 14, after spending several years in Brooklyn, NY, she, her mother (Germaine Morrel
Becker), and new father (Patrick Leon Levy) relocated to the Clarksville area where Micheline attended
Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, NY. It was then that she captured the heart and eventually
married her forever sweetheart, Harold J. Houck, Jr.
Early in their marriage Harold was shipped overseas to serve in the Korean War. During that time,
Micheline lived with her in-laws, Christina, Harold Houck, Sr., and their 8 other children (Roger, Warren,
Donald, Margie, Dee, Lewis, Larry, and Louise). Being an only child, Micheline embraced the big family
experience so after his release from service, she and Harold, Jr. went on to have 5 children of their own
(Kim, Laurie, Jacquie, Nanette, and Nicky).
Micheline dedicated herself to her husband, children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and
community. Her passion for life and family was obvious during the many treks to Floodwood Pond
(where she lovingly received the nickname “Grambo”), frigid time spent snowmobiling, tireless hours of
antiquing, gold panning in the Sierra Mountains under the beating sun, and cross-country travel to
celebrate marriages and mend sorrowed hearts. And the love of her community was clearly obvious in
her strong sense service and cheerful attitude while volunteering in the Clarksville Heritage Society,
Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Company, and the Ladies Auxiliary for 40 years.
All who knew her deeply enjoyed her inspiring strength in trying times, sage advice in any topic, faithful
spirit under all conditions, and ever present sense of humor. Micheline’s presence will be deeply missed
by her family, friends, community, and church. May she rest in Peace.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar. Friends are invited to visit with Micheline's family on Thursday, 5-7 pm in the Fredendall Funeral Home.
