Millicent E. Van Zetten, 85, of Middletown, Connecticut formerly of New Scotland, New York, beloved wife of Jacob Van Zetten, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 20th .
Born on June 15, 1929 in Albany, New York to the late P. Henry Weiss and Ella Viola Clother Weiss, Millie lived at 269 Sand Creek Road in West Albany with her parents and four siblings. She met her future husband, Jake while she was working as a teller at the National Commercial Bank and Trust. Along with his deposit slip, Millie would include a root beer lollipop after learning that this was his favorite. The two wed on October 29, 1955 at First Lutheran church in Albany.
After their marriage, Millie joined her new husband and brother-in-law in the family business. She was an essential part of the Van Land Farms business where she managed the financial matters for the dairy farm and rental properties.
Jake and Millie were long-time active members of the New Scotland Presbyterian Church and later the Helderberg Reformed Church. Millie was involved with a variety of church activities including the choir, craft fairs, as well as various fundraisers. In addition to being involved with her church, she was also very active in the community, working at the New Scotland Town Hall elections polls, and the Voorheesville Cooperative Extension as a 45-year Master Gardener.
In their free time, Jake and Millie enjoyed cross-country travel in their RV, cruising to exotic destinations, and relaxing at their Florida timeshare. An avid bridge player, she also enjoyed her daily crossword puzzle.
Millie is predeceased by her parents, her twin brother, Robert Weiss and her sister, Marion E. Klapp.
She is survived by her husband, Jacob Van Zetten, and their two children, John P. Van Zetten (Karen) of Colchester, Connecticut and Jo Anne Jacob (John) of Saint Thomas, USVI and her grandchildren Joshua J. Van Zetten and Jameson P. Van Zetten and her siblings Russell Weiss and William Weiss
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Millie's name be sent to the Helderberg Reformed Church, 435 NY Rt. 146, Guilderland Center, NY 12085, 518-861-8031.
Calling hours for the family will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd at 11:00 AM at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont, NY. The interment will be at 1:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery 303 Sand Creek Road in Albany, NY. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM the Helderberg Reformed Church located at 435 Route 146 in Guilderland Center.
