BERNE- Ray M. Porter, 66, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. He was born on October 25, 1953 to US Airforce Serviceman, Mace E. Porter and his British wife Maureen V. (nee Reohorn) Porter.
Ray was a graduate of Berne-Knox High School in 1971. Starting in his youth and for many years he had a passion for fishing and hunting. He was employed by General Electric Company as a Steamfitter.
Ray married Debra Lee Blodgett and they resided in her family home, thanks to the generosity of her uncle. Ray lovingly cared for Debra as she battled cancer until God called her home.
Through many years, sometimes tumultuous, Ray suffered with many challenges and failing health. His father was always there with unconditional love, encouragement, help, advice and sometimes rebuke. His father would bring him dinners, provided transportation, check in on him or just visit, recently with the help of his nephew Donnie McDermott.
Through the kindness and generous compassion of the members of Rock Road Chapel and Ray Lee, his caregiver, Ray was able to continue to live in his home with his cat Boo.
Ray would call several times a day to check on his dad and tell him about good shows on tv or give him weather information and especially Boo updates. Ray’s struggles on this earth are now over, but he will be missed!
He is survived by his father Mace E. Porter, his sister Tina Bouton and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Debra Lee Blodgett, his mother Maureen and his brother-in-law Clifford Bouton.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 11AM at Rock Road Chapel, 96 Rock Road, Berne. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Berne.
