Reynold Patrick Santini (known also as Ray and Duff to friends and Grandpa to his 11 grandchildren) passed away peacefully on June 13, 2012. Ray was born in New York City on March 17, 1931 to Reynold Santini and Dorothy Mooney . His mother married Albert Heaney after his father passed away in 1935. Ray is predeceased by his brother Joe, his sisters Marian and Virginia (Ginni) Heaney, his mother Dorothy, and his step father Al. He is survived by his daughter Jessica (Billy) and his sons Michael (Maureen) and Gilbert and his step children Don Rice (Betsy), Wendy Storino (Frank) and Jeff Rice. He was especially loving with his grandchildren, Patrick, Brendan and Caeleigh Santini; Brooke Storino; Tyler, Justin, Cameron and Logan Rice and Cassidy, Jillian and Kyle Rice. Ray attended the University of Chicago. He served in the Korean War, working as a journalist for Stars and Stripes magazine and later for WPIX-TV. In 1961 Ray bought the storied bar Chumley's in Greenwich Village. Chumleys was a speakeasy during Prohibition and became a famous tourist destination and a local pub for New Yorkers. Ray moved to Windham, NY full time in 1991. Ray was known to all as an intelligent, quick-witted man who loved boxing and baseball, who read the NY Times cover to cover every day and spent time working on his book. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. Calling hours will be on Friday June 15th at Decker Funeral Home, Windham NY from 7-9:00pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday June 16th at 8:30 am at St Theresa's RC Church. Interment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 10 W Stevens Ave in Hawthorne, NY where his mother and father are buried.
