Schenectady- Richard Leonard, 62, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, NY. He was born on July 19, 1946, in Jamestown, NY, the son of Charles and Lula (Leonard) Lewis. He battled cancer for over a year and was in remission, always staying positive, strong, caring, courageous, loving, and adventurous, always wanting a challenge and facing it head on.
He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in Vietnam for about one year. He was a Communications Engineer for the Rochester Telephone Company, retiring years ago. He was hard working and very dedicated to whatever he did. He loved motorcycles and the sound of speed. He even raced for a while.
Richard is survived by his wife Mary, his two sons, Jeffery (Lisa) and Derrick (Choonlee), his two step-daughters, Cheryl (Eric) and Monica (James), his sister Augusta Lewis, and his brother in law Raymond Winne and his wife Virginia. He is also survived by his grandchildren whom he loved and cherished, Tyler and Breanna Sowards/Maze, and Hayden and Gabriell Leonard, and his kitties, which will miss Daddy so much, Clarence, Kami, Jessi James and Dakota.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont, NY from 4-6PM. A funeral service will follow at 6PM. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland, NY on Sat. June 6, 2009 at 10AM.
