Sadly, on January 24, 2014, Robert Joseph Dunphy, beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather , was called home to the Lord after passing peacefully in his sleep with his loving wife at his side and surrounded by family. He was born on December 13, 1941 to Francis and Eileen Dunphy ( Holt) of the Bronx . Bob and his family resided in Beacon, NY for many years before he established permanent residency in Prattsville, NY.
Upon graduating from Beacon High School, Bob was hired as a NY City Iron worker and was involved in construction of the Pan Am building. Bob then enjoyed a 36 year career with the Central Hudson Gas & Electric Company before retiring in 2000 as Chief of the Gas Department. Bob had many favorite past times including bowling, golfing, boating, wood working, gardening, and in later years, landscape painting. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys football fan, and could often be seen walking around town with his precious schnauzers.all of them garbed in their Dallas Cowboys attire. Bob played first base for Mi-Ro's softball team in Beacon, NY for many years, and was inducted into the City of Newburgh's Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 2011.
Bob was an active member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Windham, NY. He assisted Father Jim for 10 years as Eucharistic Minister performing prayer services and administering the Eucharist to the homebound.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne Dunphy, who was blessed to have spent 44 years by his side. He is also survived by his sister Eileen " Skip" (George) Jungen of Levittown, NY; Sister-in-Law Anne Dunphy of Mohegan Lake, NY; Children: Jill Chase of Scotia, NY, Robert Dunphy of Clearwater FL, Joy (Bill) Del-Sette of Sloanesville, NY, Jodi Gurley ( Antoine Vasse) of Hartwick, NY, Diana (Patrick) Pearson of Pinellas Park, FL; and his adored Grandchildren: Carina, Kate, Robert, Nadine, Devon, Josie,Kayla,Christina, Tommy, Alexis, Austin, Tori , and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, his brother Thomas Dunphy, brother Richard Dunphy, and niece Carol Ann Mateer.
Viewing hours will be held at Decker's Funeral Home on Main Street, Windham, NY on Tuesday January 28th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A funeral mass service will be held at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church on Main Street, Windham, NY on Wednesday January 29th at noon.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers , memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimers Organization, Prattsville Hose Company , or Prattsville Rescue Squad.
