Robert L. Marx "Bob" passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024 at the blessed age of 93.
Born on January 26, 1931 in Schenectady, NY, Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 71
years Beverly "Bev", his two daughters Cheryl "Cherí" (Leon) France and Michele (Mark)
Fonda, and his adoring sisters June (Stephen) Montenaro and Joyce Santor. Robert was an
amazing grandfather lovingly called "Pom Pom" by his grandchildren Noël, Nicole, Shanelle,
Crystle and CJ as well as his twelve great grandchildren. He also loved his many nieces and
nephews.
After graduating from Draper High School, Bob actively served in the US Air Force and then
the Air Force Reserves. Bob was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady,
NY for over 41 years, where he rose through the ranks with promotions to become the Human
Resources Manager of the GE Power Generation Division. Also, he was installed as a Mason
of the Masonic Temple Noah Lodge #0754 in Altamont, NY and was the oldest living Past
Master of this Lodge prior to his passing.
Bob was an incredible athlete receiving numerous awards and accolades in his lifetime for his
exceptional skills in basketball, baseball, tennis, bowling, running, and jogging. He traveled
throughout the US as a participant on several competitive sports leagues, and with the Cape
Cod Senior Softball League during his retirement. His hobby as a talented woodworker, he
took pleasure in creating beautiful heirlooms for his family and friends. He bestowed
nicknames to those he loved and admired, enjoyed telling stories and jokes, and prided
himself on his puns. He was an enormous sports enthusiast and unwavering fan of the New
York Yankees, New York Giants, and the Oneonta Soccer Team.
Bob's family would like to thank the staff at Eddy Village Green (House #6) in Cohoes, NY, for
the compassionate care they provided to him over the last few months and a special thank
you to Community Hospice of Albany County for their support.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on his birthday - Sunday, January 26,
2025 at 2pm at Helderberg Reformed Church located at 435 NY Route 146 (Main St),
Guilderland Center, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The
Community Hospice of Albany County 445 New Karner Road Albany, NY 12205, or Eddy
Village Green 421 W. Columbia St. Cohoes, NY 12047, or a charitable organization of choice.
