BERNE- Roy B. Jones Sr., died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday, June 12, 2020. He was 87. He was born on June 17, 1932 in Berne, NY, the son of the late Howard and Lillian (née Hempstead) Jones. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Edwin and Douglas.
Roy grew up in the house across the street from where he and his wife Charlotte (née Crawford) have lived for 56 years. He worked for General Electric in the evenings while in high school. He retired as Sergeant of Troop T of the N.Y. State Police Department where he worked for 20 years. After retiring, Charlotte and Roy fished their way across the country and back. They made good friends everywhere they went. He spent his time in the winters ice fishing until retirement where he fished the Florida Keys.
Roy and his family always kept busy; the springtime, making maple syrup; the summer, camping and fishing in the Adirondacks and come fall, hunting turkey and deer after returning from salmon fishing in Michigan.
Church was very important to him. He always made sure he attended a church service weekly no matter what location he was in at the time.
Roy is a 5-generation grandfather. He taught his children and grandchildren about the great outdoors.
He is survived by his loving wife Charlotte; his children Roy Jr. and his wife Merry, Bruce and his wife Nancy, Karen Parker and her husband Chris, and Dale and his wife Rena; his grandchildren Joshua, Jeremiah, Gregory (Deianara), Danielle (Justin), Brandon, Adrianne (Dale), Michael, Jessica, Jeremy, Jason and Jenica; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He is survived by his two sisters, Ruth Thibodeaux and Marilyn Mayers
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 12-1PM at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
