Sherwood A. (Spike) Taylor of East Berne, NY passed away on December 28, 2017. Spike was born March 4, 1935 in Lake Placid, NY, son of the late Ralph and Agnes (Ling) Taylor. He attended Lake Placid schools before moving to Schenectady and graduating from Mont Pleasant High School while working at Aumiller's Pharmacy. He enjoyed a 39 year career with Walter Motor Truck Company in Voorheesville, NY, retiring in 1997. He takes with him endless fond memories of the customers he met and trained while traveling the world delivering specialty airport crash trucks and snow plows. He generously gave of himself as a Rotterdam Troop 10 Boy Scout leader and shared his woodworking skills and exceptional knowledge of all things mechanical with his children. Numerous pieces of furniture he lovingly refinished have found homes in lucky friends and families.
Spike is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nina (Russell), his brother Jay Taylor (Kay) and 26 children/grandchildren: Claire (Joe) Pugliese of Schenectady, Taylor and Andrew Pugliese; Timothy (Giovanna) of Millbrook, NY, Elizabeth Taylor; Beth (Kevin) Donovan of Schenectady, Jennifer (Zac) Donovan and Ian (Ashley) Donovan; David (Christin) Taylor of Greer, SC, Meghan (Trent) Coker, Nicolas (Tory) Taylor, Olivia Taylor, Cameron Taylor; and Keith (Mary) Taylor of Erie, PA, Abigail, Kaitlyn, Samantha, and Timothy Taylor; great-grand-children: Lillie, Alaina, and Evander Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Mary (Rocca), son, Wayne, brothers Wesley, Cleon, Clarence, Calvin, and sisters Madah McDowell and Elizabeth Taylor.
Friends and family are invited to call from 2 to 4 pm on December 30, 2017 at the Fredendall Funeral Home (199 Main St., Altamont, NY). A brief memorial service will be held immediately following at 4 pm at the funeral home. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
