Thomas I. Chase, 56, of East Berne passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 after a long illness. Tom was predeceased by his father Edward M. Chase, Jr. and elder brother Edward M. Chase, III. Survivors include his mother Airetta Chase; sister Patricia Chase; sister Elaine Chase and her husband Joel Winne; and brother Timothy Chase; nieces Gabrielle (Ronald) Shultes; Shanna (Jay) Becker; and nephew Zak Chase. Grand nieces and nephews include Nicole (Scott) Carrol and their daughter Ella Ray Carrol; Brittney Shultes; Aurora (Alex) Cookhouse; Benjamin Becker and Lucas Becker. Tom was a true country boy who never wished to stray far from his home in the Helderberg Mountains. He took joy in observing nature and had a special knack for spotting things others would not notice. He loved watching the wildlife that visited the fields and skies surrounding his home. Tom will be remembered always for his soft heart, his loyal friendship and his talent for being able to fix pretty much anything. His family is so grateful for the love he shared with them during his short life. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont, NY 12009 on Friday, June 30, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Helderberg Ambulance Squad, 978 Cole Hill Road, East Berne, NY 12059, phone (518) 872-9111.
