Guilderland- Thomas T. Van Wagenen Jr. lifelong resident of Guilderland passed away on June 14, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Schenectady, NY on June 20, 1926, the son of the late Thomas Sr. and Mildred (nee Laraway) Van Wagenen.
Tom joined the US Navy and served our great country during WWII. Returning home, he graduated from Altamont High School in 1947. He drove a bus for the Albany-Schenectady bus line, worked in a warehouse for International Harvester in Menands and then worked at the Town of Guilderland Water Department, retiring as Superintendent in September 1992.
He was a life member, Fire Commissioner and past Chief of the Guilderland Fire Department.
He is survived by his daughters Karen M. Van Wagenen (Tom DeLeon) and Liz (Jim) Sprague; his sons Andrew (Alan Ilagan) Van Wagenen and T.J. (Nancy) Van Wagenen; his grandchildren Daniel Van Wagenen, Andrea (Karl) Wahrlich and Christopher Van Wagenen (fiance Kelly Griffith); his great grandson Kiptin Wahrlich; his sister-in-law Edith "Cookie" Dylong and his canine companion Christopher; several nieces and a nephew.
He was predeceased by his wife Kathrine in 2001 and his brother Donald in 1980.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 3-7PM at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont. A funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10AM with interment to follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
