Valentine A Ciupek, "Val", 96, died on November 20, 2021 after a brief illness. Born in 1925 in Voorheesville New York to the Late Blazej and Julia Waz Ciupka.
He attended Voorheesville Schools where he was on the Jr. Varsity Basketball team from 1941 through 1943, Varsity football team in 1943, Senior Class Vice President in 1943 and Business Manager for the 1943 yearbook. After graduating from high school, Val furthered his education by taking night courses in Cost and Corporate Accounting and also in Calculating and graduated with a Commercial degree. He was a civilian storekeeper for the United States Navy supply depot in Scotia, NY from 1944 through 1949. Val was the proud owner and operator of Esso Gasoline service station on Sharp's corners from 1949 to 1951, and also drove a school bus part time. Valentine was the cashier at Vogel Trucking company from 1953 to 1955 and started his long career with the state of New York as a statistical clerk in the Health Department in 1955. Val retried in 1988 from the State of New York, after 33 years, ending his long career in Real Property Services as the Head Account Clerk.
Valentine was an original member of the Voorheesville Men's Bowling League, which originated in 1949 and celebrated 60 years of membership. He was well known by his friends in the Guilderland Elks Lodge #2480. Valentine was also an usher at St. Lucy's Church for several years.
Valentine enjoyed carpentry and working on his home, vegetable gardening, NASCAR racing, and playing weekly poker games with his buddies. He also enjoyed trips to the casinos, was a past member of the Altamont Senior Citizens and loved his candy.
Valentine is survived by his son John (Sherry) Ciupek and his grandchildren: Gregg (Elizabeth) Smith, Casey (Eric) Cook, Erin (Andy) Schroeder, Amy Ciupek, Allison (Daniel) Bosely. Cherished great-grandfather of Georgia, Kaitlyn, Nathan, Levi, Blue, and Jackson.
In addition to his parents Blazej and Julian Waz Ciupka, both natives of Poland, Valentine is predeceased by his Wife June Stephens Ciupek with whom he shared 46 years of marriage; his daughter Nancy and her husband Keith Ciupek Smith; and his siblings: Frank Ciupek, John Ciupek, Anna Ciupek Intrieri, Stephen Ciupek, Mary Ciupek Walas and Nellie.
Family and Friends are invited to visit with Val's family on Tuesday in the Fredendall Funeral Home 199 Main Street, Altamont 9-11a.m. Interment immediately following in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In Lieu of flowers donations in Valentine’s memory may be made to the Altamont Community Food Pantry 122 Grand Street Altamont, NY 12009, or the Boyd Hilton VFW Post #7062, 11 Mill Street Altamont, NY 12009.
