Vernon Schanz

East Berne, NY Vernon G Schanz Jr. 91 passed away peacefully on August 5, 2015 with family by his side. He was born on July 17, 1924 in Berne, NY and was the son of the late Vernon and Mildred Josephine (Proper) Schanz. He was predeceased by his daughter Sandra Marricle, his son Gordon Schanz, as well as his brothers Melvin, Willard, and Leonard Schanz. He is survived by his sisters Inez Keppler and Elaine Wilson. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and one special niece, Diane Chrysler. Vernon graduated from Berne Knox Westerlo in 1942. He was a dairy farmer for many years and was a bonded livestock hauler and buyer which he enjoyed the most. He later went to work for the Albany County Highway Department and afterwards the Town of Berne. He had a deep appreciation of Mother Nature. Calling hours will be held on Sunday August 9, 2015 from 4-6 at Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont New York. A funeral service will be held on Monday August 10, 2015 at 11AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Berne New York. Memorial Contributions can be made to the East Berne Fire Department, East Berne N.Y. 12059 or the Huntersland Fire Department.
