Knox, Walter A. Coulter, 90 died quietly at home after a long illness on October 8, 2012. He was born on May 22, 1922 in Schenectady, NY, the son of the late Walter and Flora (Turrian) Coulter. He married Helen (Quay) Coulter on Christmas Day 1943.
Walter served in the US Army during WW II as a radar technician in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Post 977 in Altamont; he served as Town of Knox Assessor for several years; a member of the Knox Reformed Church serving as both elder and deacon; a member of the Knox Fire Dept., a member of Plank Roaders and the Old Men of the Mountain. Upon leaving the service, Walter purchased a farm in Knox where he worked till he joined the NYS Office of General Services where he worked as a mechanic. He retired as a supervisor after 37 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen, his son Jerry (Dina) of Knox, his daughters, Betsey (Richard) Bartley of Knox, Jill (Edward) Fassett of Duanesburg, and Pam (Michael) Izzo of Cohoes. His sister Alice Terry; his grandchildren, Noreen Hayden, Timothy Hofmann, Tracie Coulter, Deborah Diehl, Joseph Bartley, James Bartley, Matthew Fassett , Andrew Fassett and three great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his daughter Jean Hofmann, a brother Arthur and his sisters, Helen Dierks and Vivian Quay.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 5-7PM at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont. Funeral service will be on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Knox Reformed Church, Berne-Altamont Rd., Knox, at 10AM. Interment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
