Werner Knopp passed away peacefully following a long illness in East Greenbush on Tuesday December 17, 2024. He was 81. Born in Berlin Germany Werner was the son of the late Hans and G. Theresia Korner Knopp. Beloved husband of Linda Mydlarz Knopp, whom he shared over 60 years of marriage with.
Born in Germany Werner and his parents immigrated to the United States and settled into the new family home on Madison Avenue in Albany in the 1960's. Answering his call to service to his county, Werner enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1966 after serving for two years. Proudly Werner was nationalized by the United States in 1968.
Following his military career, Werner went on to teach in the machine shop at Glens Falls BOCES. Respected by both his colleagues and students, Werner was featured in several area publications where he was held in high regard for the success of his educational program and how quickly his graduates were hired following their education.
A longtime resident of Berne, Werner and Linda had a fondness for their home. Dating back to the late 1800's, the Knopp family embraced the homes rich history in Berne and enjoyed caring and maintaining the house as well as sharing old photos of it around the community.
Werner is survived by his long-time wife Linda Knopp.
Services were held privately at the request of Werner's family.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont.
